The Cross Broke Every Curse

It has been a little over three months since my team and I were in Togo, but the stories from that place remain fresh in my mind. There were 8 of us that went to Togo for 6 weeks while the rest of our school split up between India and Nepal. We were staying at the local YWAM base and working alongside their staff in the clinic they run. We attended patients on the two clinic days a week and were also on 24/7 call for patients that would come on other days needing attention. We did prenatal check ups, conducted 5 deliveries, post natal check ups, newborn assessments, malaria testing and treatment, HIV testing, basic wound care, and we did many healthcare teachings. Outside of clinic days we would do evangelism in the market, go on home visits, and speak at churches and schools on healthcare and gospel teachings. As a team we would have worship and/or intercession for a few hours every day. At one point we felt led as a team to have a 24 hour prayer and worship time for the clinic, shortly after they had a HUGE breakthrough with the government- a breakthrough they had been praying for for many years! There are many more stories to tell from this time but here are just a few:
-I labeled this newsletter “the cross broke every curse” because while we were there we came face to face with this truth. Witchcraft is very prevalent in Togo and it is one of the places voodoo originated from. There was a day one of my teammates and I somehow received a curse and the result was extreme physical pain that was medically unexplainable. We were on the floor and could barely move so another teammate ran and got our leaders. They prayed for us and the pain started to go away, they prayed again and this time prayed in Jesus name for any curse to be broken and the pain immediately left and never came back! It was incredible to experience first hand the power of God, and I think it was very significant for God to allow me to go through this so I can bring freedom to others through Jesus! We are fighting a spiritual battle and praise the Lord we are on the winning side every time!
-Another instance with, what I believe was a curse, was the story of baby Wonder. That morning while we were having a time of prayer walking, I felt very led to pray for protection and declare psalm 91:13 over the clinic: “You will trample upon the the lion and the cobra; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under you feet!”. Baby Wonder was born shortly after this time with a heart beat but still needed help to breathe the first two hours of life. The two teammates involved with the delivery and the mother prayed Jesus name over him as they did resuscitation until he became stable. One of my teammates and I were on call that night with him and as soon as we started our shift he started having seizures. As we were watching over him we noticed a small snake on the floor heading straight towards the bed the baby was in. The snake was also between me and the door I need to go through to get help but I knew God would protect us so I jumped over it and got the help we needed to kill it. (We later found out that they had never had a snake in the clinic before and that it was one of the most dead they kinds of snakes). Baby wonder continued to have 4-6 seizures an hour the entire night. I was too worried to sleep so I held him as he shook and I wept and prayed over his little life. I started praying against curses and praying for life until very late into the night. The next morning his mother took him back to her small village because the nearest hospital was 3 hours away and we had already done all we could for him. I knew it would take a miracle if he was to live through this. A few weeks later to the shock and delight of all of us she came walking into the clinic with the most perfectly chubby, healthy baby boy in her arms! The God of wonders had certainly worked a miracle in baby Wonders life.

-We also had the opportunity, during our last week, to be invited to speak on several healthcare topics and share the gospel in a small village (picture on the right) (the same one baby wonder lives in). While we were in Togo, I had been asking God for the opportunity for meet and share Jesus with a voodoo priest and a village chief. In this village I was able to do that! The village chief was a voodoo priest as well and I was able to speak with him about the love of God and pray for him. He is very interested in reading the Bible to find out more about Jesus and we were able to leave a bible in their language with them.
After we left Togo we went back to for a week to Perth and graduated from the birth Attendant school! Thank you to everyone who supported me, encouraged me, and faithfully prayed me through this extremely difficult and exhausting journey!
I am currently back with the YWAM base in France volunteering but will be home from October to December and hope to be able to share with all of you then what God has placed on my heart to do next! If anyone would like me to come speak at their church or small group while I am home, please send me a message!
