Hello again everyone!

The first month here seemed to fly by! Many of us have been sick off and on so if you can please be praying for our health that would be appreciated! After the first week here we had permission to come in a start volunteering in the four different hospitals this school has volunteered with in the past and by the second week we were starting shifts (5 hours, 5 days a week)! Even though we had permission, it was still a battle of prayer and humility to come in and build favor, trust, and relationship with the doctors and nurses. God has been so faithful to answer our prayers in that area and we have made many friends. We have already been putting into practice everyday the things we learned in the advanced lecture phase: managing complications, putting in IVs, blood draws, suturing, and much more! The last time I checked our baby book we have delivered and welcomed in Jesus name 75 precious little babies, 6 of which I have had the blessing to deliver!! To God be all the glory!

Here is just one of many amazing stories: I was monitoring a woman with severe Pre-eclampsia (a very serious complication in pregnancy) and I was able to pray for her and minister to her a little. The next day I saw her in ICU and she beamed proudly as she placed her beautiful baby girl in my arms. She didn’t need to have surgery and both her and baby were doing well! I was able to share with her and her aunt who were Muslim that Jesus had answered our prayers! They listened intently as I just got to stand there holding that precious bundle and share stories of Jesus with these beautiful women. What an honor and privilege to do what we do!

Though there are many happy stories of healthy mum and bub there are many stories everyday that don’t have the endings we would hope for. “99% of all maternal deaths happen in developing nations” is a statistic we heard about at the beginning of this school but now we are face to face with it. Almost everyday (just in our five hour shifts) there are 1 to sometimes 3 cases of precious little ones going to the arms of Jesus before they get a chance to go to their mothers arms. It is in those moments I feel so highly unqualified, but these are the moments we were meant to be in because we can bring God’s healing presence with us. God is there in person to comfort them and show them kindness and compassion. We hold their hands and cry with them while we pray for them and share the true hope that can be found in Jesus.

I know from experience that we in no way can run into those moments of pain in our own strength. I’ve done that in the past and my heart went to a very dark and painful place and I doubted God’s goodness. Praise God He brought me out of that and taught me how to lean fully into Him in those moments with His beautiful Indian daughters! We could not and would not want to do this without Him! Despite all the pain, sorrow, and suffering He never once ceases to be good! He never ceases to be faithful! We may not always understand why but His character of being good is our solid ground we can stand on at all times and offer to those around us!

Please continue to pray for us as we have another two and a half months in India! My team has been amazing and I’ve learned much from each one! Also please pray for our three leaders, they are doing such an amazing job and I learn from them daily! If you would like to hear more stories or have questions you can always email me and I’d love to chat with you!

Blessings,

Katie
