Looking back on the first three months of birth attendant school in Perth, Australia, it is amazing to see how much we have learned in such a short time! During this lecture phase we have heard from doctors, nurses, pediatricians, midwives, YWAM leaders, and mothers about: anatomy and physiology, antenatal care, nutrition, STDs, HIV, malaria, infectious diseases, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, postnatal care, and complications in pregnancy and delivery. We have had workshops on how to: take vital signs, do a urinalysis, check hemoglobin levels, estimate blood loss, give injections, perform infant resuscitation, and so much more! Spiritually we have learned about: being a godly midwife, the nature and character of God, spiritual dynamics of birth, sexual purity, fear of the Lord, pride, Gods heart for complications in pregnancy and the birthing process, praying for healing, unity, and much much more!
There are 19 other girls on my team from all over the world and 6 wonderful staff. It has been a joy to learn with these ladies and I look forward to delivering babies with them! Life in Perth is noisy, busy, rainy, and all around different. We have busy schedules everyday filled with: chores (cleaning toilets, sweeping, moping, etc), lectures, homework, work duties (washing lunch dishes for two hours), worship, prayer times, and gatherings. Our accommodations is an old hostel that used to be a barracks and is about a 20 minute walk to the YWAM base where we have our classes, meals, and worship times. There is about 60 girls in one hallway all on different schools here in YWAM including my school (BAS). It was an adjustment but has proven to be really fun to live in the barracks where we have visitors come and go from all over the world that we get to share Jesus with on a daily basis! Yesterday one of the girls led a German staying here to the Lord and a few minutes ago I was chatting with an older man from Switzerland and was able to share the gospel with him! He has been hurt by “religion” in the past but listened as I shared how God is about relationship and not “religion”. God’s truth went out and seeds have been planted, please continue to pray for those we have planted seeds in during our time here! God has been so faithful to provide opportunities like this for us, to Him be all the glory for what He has done in the barracks! He will be faithful to water these seeds because I had the blessing of seeing Him do it. If you would like to hear the story, just shoot me an email! In the area of finances we have all been blown away by God's faithfulness! We started out needing $200,000 AUD just for outreach as a school and after a walkathon, bake sales, car washes, and countless donations, God provided everything we need! Thank you to each of you who has participated in the Kingdom work by giving financially!
God has been doing some very deep work in my heart these last three months. I prayed at the beginning of the school to learn more about the fear of the Lord, true repentance, and how to couple Gods heart with healthcare work. Those were some dangerous prayers but oh so good! It has been SUCH a humbling time as God has shown me the dirt in my life and heart and given me the strength to work through it with Him and receive freedom and even physical healing! It is so mind blowing to see the goodness, patience, and love of my Heavenly Father: to look back and see how He first showed me His love and how he sees me as beautiful and calls me his daughter before taking me through this time of revealing the dirty places in my life! He takes us in His arms when we are still a dirty mess and stabilizes us in His love before gently working on one thing at a time with us! I will never be able to comprehend His ways and His unexplainable love! His love has wrecked me over and over again! But it is so good to work through these things with Him and dig deep in my life because it is through this, my testimony, that I will be able to share Jesus with others. It is always easier to share about things you know about and have experienced. God is so good! His faithfulness is never ending! My relationship with Justin is going well. We started with only writing letters but now are communicating by FaceTime as well. He has truly been a blessing in my life and is always encouraging and praying for me. He is such a visible example of the love of Jesus and therefore has given me such a better understanding of Gods love. He has helped me see deeper into areas God has been working on and I'm so grateful for his deep friendship.
My team and I leave on Monday for our first location: Manila, Philippines! We will be there 8 weeks and then will return to Perth for Christmas and the advanced lecture phase. In January we leave for Hyderabad, India where we will get to work alongside doctors in the hospitals and deliver babies for four months. The last six weeks of outreach we will be split into three groups, each going to a different country. I will be on the team going to Togo, Africa. Thank you for your continued prayers and support! If you have any questions about things I'm learning or about what I'm doing, please feel free to email me anytime: katie@heartforhim.org If you would like to know more about what Justin is doing you can click here: https://thebeginningsof.wordpress.com/ If you would like to hear stories more often, you can join me on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1649092625381379/
