Well I am officially here in Perth, Australia and the Birth Attendant School is under way! Thank you to everyone who supported me financially and supported me with prayer every step of the way! It is cold and rainy here which, coming from South Carolina summer, has been quite the adjustment! There are 29 nations represented in the 12 schools currently running at this YWAM base, including the BAS (Birth attendant School) which has 20 students. Many of the girls in these schools (myself included) stay at a hostel about a 20 minute walk away from the base where all the meals, worship times, and classes are. This actually gives us the perfect opportunity to pray over the streets everyday. I have counted three brothels on the way to the base and I know there are probably more, so it is great to be able to bring the presence of God through prayer to these places everyday. I have also been able to plug into a local church here as well. My time at home did not really go as I had expected, but none of it was a surprise to God. Shortly after getting home I found out I needed to have surgery done to treat the abdominal pain I had been having all through my DTS (disciple training school). There wasn't any problems with the operation and I am still healing well from it. I had the blessing and honor of being a bridesmaid in two of my best friends weddings and being maid of honor in my “missionary mom’s” wedding. It was so wonderful to be in the states for those special events!! I was also able to spend lots of quality time with my adorable little nephews and my family and also meet the young woman my oldest brother just got engaged to! Thank you to my mom and sister in law who put so much extra effort to make sure my time home was really enjoyable, love you both so much. God also opened the way for me to be able to share testimonies of His work in my life in three different churches/ small groups. An unexpected happy event happened in late April when a special visitor came in from France for two weeks. After meeting my family and speaking with my dad this special visitor and I started dating. His name is Justin Smith and he is from Florida but currently serving as a missionary in France as staff at the YWAM base I was at. We met in 2015 when I was there as a volunteer and we have been good friends ever since. We both have the same passion for missions and calling to serve God in challenging places. As of now he is part of the leadership team there at the base and the personal assistant to the leader, so he is kept busy most of the time! If you would like to know more about who he is and what he does, send me an email and I will connect you to his newsletters! Prayer requests: 1. Please pray for my physical healing to continue well. 2. Please pray that my team would form really strong bonds these first few weeks of this 11 month school. 3. Please pray for Justin and I, that we would have wisdom in this relationship, honoring each other and God. 4. Please pray for my relationship with God to go deeper and strengthen. “To be a midwife who fears the Lord, I need to know the Lord.” If you have any questions, comments, or would like to hear more stories of God’s work please feel free to email me! I'd love to chat with you! Blessings, Katie Tucker katie@heartforhim.org
